17 Fun Things to Do in Breckenridge with Kids

Breckenridge, Colorado is a beautiful mountain town nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. While a popular ski destination in the winter, its also a great place to visit year-round.

Looking for fun things to do with kids in Breckenridge, CO?

Beyond skiing, hike to find the Breckenridge Troll, ride a mountain roller coaster, go dog sledding, or play at one of arcades. Breckenridge is a great destination for families looking for fun and adventure!

Gold Runner Alpine Mountain Coaster

During summer months, enjoy a thrilling roller coaster ride through the forest at 2,500 feet elevation. Riders must be at least 38″ tall. Its located at top of peak 8, take the Gondola up for free.

Zipline Through the Rockies

Top of The Rockies Zip Line 2-hour tour includes all 6 zip line sections, over 8,000 feet of zip lines at the Top of the Rocky Mountains. Soar through the sky year-round – spring, summer, fall, and even in the winter. Kids must weigh more than 60 pounds.

Visit the Breckenridge Troll

Our favorite FREE thing to do in Breckenridge with kids – A short drive (or walk) from Main Street you’ll find Isak Hearthstone. The famous 15 foot wooden Breckenridge Troll. See how to find it.

Water Rafting – 1/2 Day Float

For the adventurous family, just an hour drive north of Breckenridge, take a ride on the Colorado River with this Upper Colorado River Half-Day Float Trip. This is an epic adventure for ages 3 and up. Experience majestic canyon views and class II rapids as the Colorado River cuts through the Rocky Mountains on its way to the Grand Canyon. Keep a lookout Bald Eagles, Elk, Deer, Bighorn Sheep, or Bear as you journey downstream.

Epic Discovery Adventure

During the summer months take the free gondola up to base 8 to purchase tickets to Epic Discovery. Choose from ziplines, ropes course, mini golf, kid-friendly rock climbing, tubing, and even get lost in a maze. Take a ride on the long Alpine slide or choose the more thrilling Alpine coaster.

Ride the Gondola – its Free

The Breckenridge Gondola is a free ride all year-round! Take the ride up to peak 8 where you can purchase lift tickets, Epic Discovery tickets, enjoy food and drinks at the popular T Bar, or even ice skate at the Grand Colorado resort.

Ice Skating at Peak 8

Once you’ve taken the Gondola up to peak 8, right at Grand Colorado is an ice rink! The views are beautiful and it only costs around $15 per kid.

Sleigh Rides

Go dashing through the snow in Breckenridge November – April.  Two Below Zero’s Scenic Sleigh Ride is a one-hour ride with hot cocoa and homemade cookies (and peppermint schnapps for the adults). Golden Horseshoe Sleigh Rides offers a unique experience of Mining Camp Dinner Theater Sleigh Ride.

Conveniently in town, Breck Stables offers a  30-40 minute sleigh ride with hot chocolate and blankets that takes you up Peak 9 of the Breckenridge Ski Resort. 

Go on a sleigh ride like no other, while being pulled by a MONSTER TRUCK. A sure hit with the kids!

Gold Mine Tour & Gold Panning

If you’re looking for things to do in Breckenridge where you just might strike gold, visit the only real open mine in Breckenridge. Descend more than 1,000 ft underground to explore historic gold mining tunnels and even slide down an ore chute. Pan for gold in the river or test your puzzle skills with an Outdoor Escape Room.

Dog Sledding

Looking to do dog sledding during your Breckenridge winter trip? Good Time Adventure‘s is the only spot in the area. It was on our todo list but spots filled up quick! They also offer snowmobiling excursions.

Breckenridge Ghost Tours

If you’re not a scaredy pants (like me!), skip the typical walking tours for a ghost tour through this historic mining town. During this interactive tour, explore haunted buildings, hunt down spirit energies with the tools conveniently provided, and listen to your private guide tell spooky stories. Breckenridge Ghostly Tales tour is available to everyone 6 years and older.

Snow Tubing

There’s a few locations to snow tube around Breckenridge! One of the only locations in Breck is located on the south end of High Street at Carter Park near the elementary school. There’s more tubing hills nearby at Keystone Ski Resort, The Frisco Adventure Park, and Copper Mountain.

Arcade & Games

Looking for an indoor activity for the kids? Breckenridge has a few indoor arcades. The most well known is Downstairs at Erics. While waiting for your table in this American-pub resturant, Erics is known for a large basement video arcade. A couple doors down is a newer arcade, I Scream Arcade.

If you’re ending your ski day at Beaver Run peak 9, inside the Beaver Run resort is another family fun arcade. See all about our stay at this Ski-in Ski-out resort!

Horseback Riding

On a Breckenridge Stables trail ride, spend an hour and a half exploring the beautiful Breckenridge scenery between Peaks 9 and 10 on the Ten Mile range above Breckenridge. With over 100 horses, they can match each rider to a horse based on the rider’s ability and age. Check it out May through October.

High Line Railroad Park

Great place for younger kids ages 2-6, especially train-loving tots! Slide through choo-choo cars, pretend your a train conductor, and see real size trains. Learn about the Breckenridge railroad history while your little ones “blow of steam” at High Line Railroad Park.

Carter Park & Playgrounds

Families flock to Carter Park for its sledding hill, heated gathering area, and playground next to Breckenridge Elementary. Pickleball, volleyball, tennis and baseball diamonds offer summer fun, while the dog park keeps furry friends happy. See all Breckenridge playgrounds.

Shopping on Main Street

Breckenridge Main Street is packed with unique shops and great food you can spend a whole day exploring. Breck Kidz has adorable one-of-a-kind clothing and Peak-a-Boo Toys store you’ll have to pull your kids out of as they won’t want to leave. I Scream Gelato is delicious and a great treat for the whole family.

Family Fun Things to do in Breckenridge Beyond the Slopes

Beyond these highlights, Breckenridge offers a plethora of activities for every family member’s taste.
