If your just married or soon to be married, this vow renewal ritual will keep you and your significant other connected throughout the years!

We recently celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary in the Bahamas. On the beach with our kids by our side, we had a beautiful vow renewal. Most people recite their vows every 5 or 10 years. But we have a unique wedding anniversary tradition. Brandon and I recite our vows EVERY year and add to them!

Every anniversary we add on to our vows. Just a sentence or two. This vow renewal anniversary tradition we created has kept us connected and committed every year. Not only do we reflect on why we said “I do” and the promises we made to each other – it allows us to reflect on the past year together. It’s a time capsule we cherish that shows our journey as a couple; highlighting major milestones, the highs and the lows.
A few of our highs that we have captured in our 10 years married is buying our 1st and 2nd house and having our kids. Lows we captured is getting through the uncertainty of the Covid-19 pandemic and loosing our sweet cat, Charlie.
Keep your wedding vows in a vow book
A vow book is the ultimate keepsake. They also are great for wedding photos on your big day!
Where do we recite our vows?

Our first wedding anniversary, we took a trip back to California where we had our honeymoon. We recited ours in San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf, a very special place to us. On our 5 year anniversary we renewed them in Cancun, Mexico. Vow renewals don’t have to be elaborate and you don’t have to travel. Some years we’ve said our vows right from the comfort of our couch in our PJs and good wine!

Here are some anniversary ideas and how to renew your vows:
- Go back to where you got married
- Celebrate at home (easy and inexpensive)
- Make a vacation out of it – go to one of your favorite places as a couple or checkout somehere new
- Go outside – beach or on a hike
- Involve your kids (and pets too!)
- For milestone years, throw a party. Invite your family and friends to witness your commitment.

How to I write my vows?
Wedding vows should be personal and from the heart. Share your feelings and also what you like about your significant other and what you like to do together. They might even happen to be a moment to highlight an area, or growth from them that makes you as a partner so proud of them. Our vows also call out our favorite travels together, a favorite show and our current pets. Have fun with them!
